Fowlers Bay South Australia

Fowlers Bay wasn't that far west from Cactus Beach, so as we had packed up early we arrived about 10am. The town is very small, the caravan park is about it, apart from some holiday units & rentals. The caravan park was interesting when we first saw it, we weren't sure what we were in for, but it turned out to be great. It is right on the waterfront near the jetty & has pretty good facilities. Our only concern was being camped right next to the generator, and that was recognised at 6.30am the next morning, so much for a sleep in!

On the first afternoon we went for a fish on the jetty & I finally broke my duck for fish & caught a reasonable sized something!! We checked the fish book but couldn't find it in there. We asked the locals & they said they were "Rockies" and were not great to eat but okay. Mat then also caught one & also a nice sized leatherjacket, so we had dinner. We cooked them up that night & they were both pretty good!!

The next morning it was pretty overcast & windy so we decided to go for a walk on the beaches & Mat climbed a sand dune. The rest of the day was spent relaxing & more fishing on the jetty.  I was determined to catch a squid, but it wasn't to be! Mat caught some more Rockies, but decided to through them back. It got pretty windy & cold that night so we went to bed early & read. The LED light in the tent works great & gives of heaps of light so it makes reading really easy.

The next morning the generator started even earlier at 5.00am so no sleep in again! We had a clean up and get sorted day. The clothes washing was done ($4 a load the dearest yet), the oils & grease checked in the car and trailer and all checked over and we used the camp kitchen to cook up a beef curry to provide us with a meal the next night as we would be having a big day on the road and also to put a meal in the freezer. We also planned our next couple of weeks and worked out what the plan was.  We decided we would try to make the WA border the next day.  We also fit in a fish & walk & the day was over.

Fowlers Bay was a good stop. There was more to do if you wanted, but we decided on a quiet few days. The caravan park was $28 a night & while pretty basic was good.
