Cape Le Grand National Park

Cape Le Grande National Park

Heaven..... What an amazing place. We have been to many national parks in Australia & still have heaps to see, but Cape Le Grand would have to be in the top 5 in Australia. We fell in love with this place. It's not often that you go somewhere that every view takes your breath away & makes you go wow! Even walking onto the same beach 5 days in a row & you are still shocked at how amazing it is.

We camped at Cape Le Grand beach campground & were really lucky to get a campsite. We were in campsite 14, tucked away, which we loved. In the mornings that followed, new campers were lined up at 6.30am in the morning waiting to get in & willing us to leave so they could have our spot. We stayed for 5 nights. One thing we hadn't encountered before were camp hosts. A lot of the popular WA campsites have volunteer camp hosts that look after the campsites for a minimum of a month at a time. We had Mike & Barbara, they were amazing & so very helpful, even adjusting our solar panels if we were out & telling us all of the great spots to visit.

Over the next 5 days we had a brilliant time. We explored the park, making stops at Hellfire Bay, one of our favourite places in the park & Mat caught a Buenito fish off the rocks that was big enough to feed us 3 meals. We also checked out Lucky Bay the other campsite in the park. This campsite was more suited to caravans, it had a beautiful view & we drove up the beach to the viewing platform & climbed to the top to see some of the most amazing blue water & white sand. We checked out Whisling Rock, Frenchman Peak & Rossiter Bay.

We also went back into Esperance twice, once for my very sore back & waited in emergency at the hospital for nearly 3 hours to see a doctor that told me he couldn't to anything for me, it was such a waste of time, but we went to the pharmacy & got some anti-inflammatory's & it has really helped. We also went back to Esperance to do some grocery shopping & resupply. Both times we made the trip to town we drove along the beach from our campsite to town cutting the trip from 60km to 22km. It was a really good drive & much quicker than the highway.

The camping at Cape Le Grand was almost "glamping" it had flushing toilets, hot showers, a camp kitchen with hot water, gas stoves & gas BBQs. The cost was $10 per adult a night plus the park vehicle access which is covered by our annual pass. There are 15 campsites at Cape Le Grand beach & 25 at Lucky Bay. It is very busy, as there is bitumen road to both campsites. We preferred Cape Le Grand beach campsite & think it is much better suited to camper trailers & had more privacy, we could only see one other campsite from our spot, as it is very well set out.

When we first started researching our trip, Mat came across a travel blog & the first entry I read was their Cape Le Grand one, it made it become one of our must see WA places. It lived up to our expectations even more than we could of imagined. This is another must do destination, you will not be disappointed.
